Unbelievable performance

After putting some good results and performances together over the last couple of months we played our 'bogey' side again - lions FC. I can't believe a side can create as many chances and I mean 10 plus, and not score never mind not win. We dominated from start and Jack Forrester waas again in good form up front putting his strength and pace to good use creating chances for himself and others. 'Sugar jay' Dooley was also in good form finding plenty of space down the left side, his ususal composure in the final third eluding him on this occasion. At one point Jack hit one post the ball fell to Oscar Pugh who wrong footed the keeper but dragged it oo far and hit the other post only for it to be scrambled away woe is us!!!

The first half ended goalless after we squandered a bagful of chances with at least 3 or 4 one on ones with their keeper. Not to worry 'if we keep creating as many chances as we have been one will come' was the half-time team talk - dream on, within 5 minutes of the restart we were 1 down then engaged in a dogfight which suited them far more than it did our passing game. We kept plugging away and still created chances but a lack of communication at the back cost us again and they somhow scrambled on in 2 down with just over 5 minutes to. In spite of this we kept going forward, and this is possibly where we've improved the most in the last 12 months, always believing we can get a result. Oscar Pugh found himself in acres of space after some nice interplay between Billy Whittle and Tom Williams but he snatched at the ball and consequently put it over the bar. Billy Whittle danced his way throught their backline and tried to catch their keeper off guard but it hit his legs and anotehr chance went begging. To cap it off Oscar haed anotehr chance right t the death, which probably would have only been a consolation anyway but it was dragged wide.

I have to say despite a sickening loss to a team that is pretty 1 dimensional, i.e. launch it forward and send in the cavalry there was stil plenty to be pleased about. We created so many chances it was unreal, the conditions were awful, it was like a dustbowl, and I can hear you saying now 'its the same for both teams' but if your game plan is kick and rush then hard uneven grassless surfaces are what you want. If you want to play a passing game then their not. Whilst I think the conditions had an effect om the result, for their goals aswell, no excuses though we had enough chances to win 3 or 4 games. Impromptu trainig session Monday night to pick the lads up before Tuesday's semi-final against Lydiate Saints. We would appreciate your support boys and girls so if you can come down to Hightown for 6 Tuesday 27th March and cheer us on please.
