Maghull 3 vs 0 Football Tots
We're in the Final.
A place in the Shield Final awaits the boys next Wednesday after a much deserved 3-0 win over Football Tots in the semi-final played at Formby FC. This was always going to be a tough game with both teams wanting to secure their place in the final but the boys didn’t allow the occasion to overawe them and they produced a confident performance. We took a little time to get going and missed a number of good chances with Patrick Irving unlucky not to score. However, Ben Myers broke the deadlock and opened the scoring following a good ball from Sean Clarke. Ben took his goal very well and drilled his shot in the corner of the net to the delight of the parents and boys. Although it was only 1-0 at half time we were always comfortable with Max Melia and Alex Roberts again excellent in defence and Kian showing good handling when called upon.
Half Time: 1-0
The second half was very much more of the same. Patrick continued to work hard up front but he had left his ‘shooting boots’ at home for this game and he was unlucky with a number of chances going astray which on any other day he would have converted. The life of a striker! However, Charlie Olson had a great ‘purple patch’ during which almost everything he struck went into the net. He scored both our goals to make it 3-0 with two great strikes and was unlucky when hitting the post and going very close on a number of occasions. Once again we were strong as a team with Sean Clarke marshalling the midfield ably supported by the ever improving Ben. Joe came on in the second half for Ben and worked hard playing left midfield as did James Roberts who replaced Charlie Olson who took a knock and needed to be replaced having made a great contribution.
A win next week will be a great reward for a set of boys who have worked tirelessly to become a very good football team in a short period of time. I’m sure this will be the start of great things to come for them. The game against the Eldonians seems a lifetime ago…and the team is virtually unrecognisable from that game. Well done boys and let’s make sure we win the Shield!
