MAHAL FOOTBALL CLUB A BRIEF HISTORY

Mahal Football Club, a club built around the principles of friendship and openness, celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2004.

Mahal FC is historically based in and around the Edgbaston and Smethwick areas of Birmingham. In the late 70s, a group of friends could be found regularly playing football in Summerfield Park every weekend. In 1979 they were approached by Sukhdev Pal and Jaswinder Chatta to form a team and, with funding from Mahal Leisurewear, Mahal FC was born.

In September 1979 Mahal FC entered Division 3 of the Saturday Warley Alliance league and by 1984 had won all of the divisional titles and cup competitions. A further six successful seasons followed in the Birmingham Works AFA league.

Due to the success of the club and its open door policy, a Second XI was founded in 1988 to play in the Sunday Festival League. This allowed less experienced and younger members to participate and enjoy their football, always with a view to progressing to the flagship First XI. The Second XI has had success in their own right culminating in a league and cup treble in 2002.

Always looking to improve and seek out new challenges the First XI was accepted into the Staffordshire County League in 1991. Four successful seasons later, Mahal FC stepped up again to the Bank's Brewery League, now the West Midlands League, where they are currently in Division 2 based at the impressive Hadley Stadium in Bearwood.

With continued interest in Mahal FC amongst the local community, in the year 2000 Youth Teams were formed and entered the Birmingham Boys YFL and the Central Warwickshire YFL, the only limiting factor was the number of volunteers available to run the teams. Over the years Mahal FC has run teams from Under 8s up to Under 18s. The players in each age group have developed up through the age groups eventually breaking into the Senior Teams, with fresh crops of youngsters always backfilling into the younger age groups. This includes both boys and girls such is the interest in the club.

After the normal league season, the close season sees Mahal FC competing in the series of Khalsa Football Federation Asian Games involving teams from all over England. Indeed, Mahal FC is actively involved in the Khalsa FA.

Mahal FC originally entered in 1988 with only the First XI taking part. This culminated in Mahal FC winning 3 of the 5 tournaments in 1993 and establishing themselves as the top seeded team for several years. They are still currently seeded in the top four.

The Youth Team first entered the tournaments in 1992 with the Second X1 joining in 2001. This has grown dramatically to the present day with Mahal entering upto 7 youth teams and both senior teams into all of the tournaments with success across all age groups.
