It’s no fun at the YMCA for Town

Maidenhead Town’s six game unbeaten run finally came to and end on Saturday after a 3-2 defeat to Reading YMCA at Braywick Park.

The game started brightly for Town, working the ball well in wide areas. It was Reading who drew first blood though, with their number 9 breaking free of the Town defence to guide the ball around Hutchinson.

The lead was doubled soon after when the Reading winger danced through the town defence, finishing emphatically. 10 minutes in and Town were in trouble.

2 goals were apparently what were needed to kick town into gear, and pressure was soon mounting on the Reading back four. Some great work down the left side and a smart Lomas cutback allowed an onrushing Maclean to sweep home his fifth goal of the season. The comeback was on.

Town continued to press, forcing Reading deep into their own half and it wasn’t long before a second goal came. A long throw from Roberts dropped kindly in the area for Hyde who drilled home from eight yards.

While searching for the win, Town were caught on the break and despite a great save from Hutchinson, the Reading winger followed up for tap in from close range.

The last 15 minutes was backs against the wall for Reading, who defended well to see out their victory. Despite the loss it was a spirited performance from Town, who look forward to a cup clash with Slough Laurencians this weekend.

Hutchinson, Webb (Palmer-Smith), Hyde, Roberts, Tarrier (Jeffries), Holland, Maclean, Waite, Angel (Evans), Lomas, Harling.
