County cup winners!!

by June Dobbs

Aaron Steadman reports: Coming into the game we were on an unbeaten run of nine games, so confidence was high. But cup finals will always be tough and the lads knew we were in for a tough game.

We started well keeping possesion for a lot of the first half. Our first chance fell to Captain Dale Wright who was slotted through by Ashley Parker, only for Wright to drag his shot wide.

A few minutes later a jinking run by Jonny Giles who fired a ball across the 6 yard box was met by Jonny Hippolyte who slipped as he shot with the ball trickling into the GK hands.

With 15 minutes gone and having already spurned 3 great chances the lads seemed to get very frustrated and were trying to force issues with a lot of long balls.

Minutes before HT Ryan Tye raced past the left back as he entered the box he pulled it back for the advancing Hippolyte whose shot smashed the cross bar - more frustration for the lads.

HT 0-0

After a calming team talk at half time, the lads came out a lot more relaxed - and it really did show.

We started really dominating possession now, and within 15 minutes we had taken the lead.

A superb run from Jack Banks saw him beat 3 players and finish with aplomb in the top corner 1-0

Another run from Banks saw us score our 2nd shortly after the restart. Again he beat 3 players but this time his shot was saved by the Mk Goalkeeper - but following up was Ashley Parker who slotted into an empty net for 2-0.

A few more half chances fell our way with Wright and Hippolyte missing from close range.

Our 3rd came at 85 minutes when a one-two between Debattista and Wright saw Debattista hauled down in the box.

Jonny Hippolyte stepped up and fired the ball into the bottom corner.

FT 3-0 Maidenhead

A lot of frustration from the boys today, but after the first goal went in we knew they would settle down and dominate.

Overall a good win and a Trophy!!

We are still currently top of the Allied Counties Premier Division, and are in Cup action again next Monday away to Witney town in the Allied Counties League Cup semi final.
