The best way to keep up to date with Maidenhead United

Chris makes Stark choice to be a Magpie!

BBC DJ loves York Road

York Road is quite the venue for celeb spotting these days.  Timmy Mallett as we all know has been a regular on the terraces at Maidenhead United for many a year and earlier this campaign the King of Chat Michael Parkinson made the short trip from his home in Bray to watch our goalless draw with FC Halifax Town.  And our supporters may have spotted another famous face in the crowd at the recent encounter with Chester, that of BBC Radio 1 DJ Chris Stark.

Chris co-presents the Scott Mills show between 1pm and 4pm Monday to Friday and has been the following the fortunes of his adopted local club having moved to the town quite recently.  Chris is excited by the ongoing development of the place and explains: "I’m really enjoying living in Maidenhead. It feels like a place where there is going to be a lot happening over the next few years and that is kind of mirrored by the success of the club. But even as it is, I’m enjoying many things about the town. Cheesey dough balls at The BelI, chilling on the river.  Sadly I’ve not been to Smokey Joes as much as I’d like!"

Chris has already developed fondness for another club in the town though, other than Smokeys.  "I love York Road. There is an incredible old school feel about it and for me it’s what makes the matchdays there feel so special. I love the fact you can buy a pint of Rebellion - sadly you can’t do that at Watford, the club I grew up watching - and the fans are a decent bunch. I’ve not gone to many games so far but everyone I’ve met has been lovely."  And I am sure Chris hits the nail on the head for how we are feeling when he adds "there’s something really special going on at Maidenhead. Their progress through the leagues has been great and it feels like a really exciting time to be a Maidenhead fan."

The Chester game saw a fabulous showing in which we blew the visitors away with a memorable first half performance.  There were lots of impressive performances on the day but who in our promising squad stands out for Chris?  "I think Sammy Barratt has been class whenever I’ve seen him play. He’s confident and now that I find I keep an eye on the Maidenhead score even when I’m away with work, it’s clear he gets a lot of goals! Harry Pritchard is an absolute machine. At the Chester game I was so impressed by Odametey. He absolutely bossed it. Persistent and a constant problem for Chester".

And how did a match at York Road compare to an afternoon in the Premier League at Watford?  "Watford will always be my first love, I’ve been going to Watford games since I was young. But since moving to Maidenhead I feel a real affinity towards the club. It’s great to support Watford with them doing so well in the Premier League, but as a football fan it is also really fun to watch football from lower down in the National League. I feel every time I attend a game I’m getting more and more involved".  And if you didn't spot Chris at the Chester game it is likely that you will do so in the near future:  "I hope to come to a lot more games and get more involved with the club.  It’s great to show support to your local team. So when I’m not at Watford, I hope to enjoy many more games to come."
