Infused with new signings the Magpies started the game well with their up tempo direct tactics initially unsettling the vistors. However once Dover had adjusted to the rhythm of the game their slick passing play started to give them supremacy and when Leon Soloman was forced off by injury eleven minutes ahead of the interval the Whites started to force their dominance home.
Within five minutes of this disruption to a United defence already weakened by the absence of suspended captain Mark Nisbet, Dover took the lead when Cogan was given the time and space in the Maidenhead penalty area to deliver his exquisite finish into the top corner of the net.
This goal threatened to open the floodgates but a double save by Steve Williams kept the deficit to one at half time. Maidenhead worked hard in the second half but were unable to fashion a chance to equalise and it left to Williams to maintain the score when he pushed a Luke I'Anson shot over the bar.
