Preview of the Easter matches...

Maidenhead embark on their Easter schedule knowing that the results could be pivotal in their endeavours to remain members of Conference South.

Staines Town, Saturday, 7th April.

The Middlesex side are another team who struggle to produce decent results at home. Despite having won away to Woking, Chelmsford and Dover, and drawn at Welling, Staines have won just one of their last seventeen home matches. This was against Welling on February 27th and you then have to go back to September 17th for their previous victory at Wheatsheaf Lane.

Maidenhead will take some comfort from the fact that our away form is better – 23 of our 38 points have been gained on “foreign” soil and we have been undefeated in our two Conference South fixtures at Staines. Last season – when our situation was even more desperate than at present – an 87th minute goal from Ashley Smith secured three crucial points in a 2-1 win.

Although the club have a decent sized car-park which is shared with the Thames Club, there is always ample street parking available in Wheatsheaf Lane and adjoining roads within a couple of minutes walk to the ground. Kick-off is 3pm.

Farnborough, Monday, 9th April.

If you accept that Farnborough are to all extents and purposes direct descendants of Farnborough Town, then our record against the Hampshire side is appalling. Until this season, we had only recorded one victory (in October 1979) in our first 23 meetings. However, this season we have two victories and a draw from our three contests. Our league meeting at Cherrywood Road came at the end of August and resulted in a 3-0 victory (Thomas, Wall, Powell). We then met in the F A Cup 2nd qualifying round and following a 1-1 draw at York Road (Powell), we triumphed 3-2 in the replay (Tison-Lascaris, Thomas, Kamara) having led 3-0 at one stage.

Can we win our first ever match against the Hampshire side at York Road? Come along and find out – kick-off is at 3pm.

Mark we only won our last Conference South at Staines - in 2009/10 we drew 1-1. Indeed the win at Wheatsheaf Park was our first there in a league match since 1985 and only our second since 1930, the 1997 win coming when Staines were groundsharing at Chertsey.

Thanks, Steve - memory lapses due to advancing age! Have amended the details.
