The first match played out to a 0-0 draw on a very narrow pitch with both teams battling hard to make the breakthrough and the best chance falling to Alfie Remess, whose rifled shot rattled the crossbar.
The second game opened up a little more with Maidstone pressing hard but once again Vinters came back strong with a free kick saved by the Maidstone keeper Connor Collins from just outside the box and then a few breakaway chances which were dealt with extremely well by Callum Roberts, Caleb Edarh and Brandon Collins. As the match ticked into the 2nd half Maidstone struck the bar for the 2nd time on the day with a Crouchesk half volley from Cameron Harms
. Matthew Jones
the dynamo in midfield kept Maidstone moving forward along with Sam Harris
on the left and George Waters
on the right who was making great runs at the Vinters defence. One of these runs down the right wing almost broke the deadlock as the ball was crossed in to the Vinters box it was met by Ryan Bernard
who put the shot wide.
And so the match was tied at the end of normal time. Two great games of football hotly contested by both teams. Now for extra time and the prospect of the dreaded penalty shootout! However Maidstone Rangers did not need to worry or have to wait that long for that all important goal, which came just 2 minutes in the first half of extra time. A free kick was awarded a few yards outside the Vinters Box and up stepped Brandon Collins to take the free kick. He composed himself and then launched a well struck ball over the Vinters defence towards the top right corner of the goal. The Vinters keeper got hands to the ball but was unable to keep it out.
All we needed to do now was hold on to that lead which was looking comfortable until the last couple of minutes when Vinters had a great chance during a goal mouth scramble.
A huge well done to both the teams today for a great game of football and commiserations to Vinters Rangers who were a credit to their club.
Bring on the Final!
C'mon the stones
