Code of Conduct

By establishing a code practice Maindy Corries seeks to develop good practice to ensure that young players can enjoy and benefit both physically and socially from playing football.

GOOD PRACTICE

General principles

• Always promote fair play.
• Accept that striving to win and doing ones best is more important than winning itself.
• Show good sportsmanship, respect and fair play to opponents and officials.
• Appreciate and praise good play from opponents.
• Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person regardless of gender, ethnic origin or cultural background.
• Enjoy winning, it’s fun, don’t gloat. Accept losing, it happens, learn from it.

COACHES/MANAGERS

Code of Behaviour

• Remember children participate and that winning is only part of the fun.
• Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing.
• Be reasonable in your demands on young players’ time energy and enthusiasm. Remember their priorities may be different from yours!
• Teach your players to follow the rules. To respect officials and opponents.
• Whenever possible group players to ensure that everyone has a reasonable chance of success.
• Avoid overplaying the talented players. The just average need and deserve equal time.
• Ensure that equipment and facilities meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age and ability of the players.
• Develop the team’s respect for the ability of opponents and for the judgement of officials and opposing coaches.
• Follow the advice of a physician when determining when an injured player is ready to recommence training or playing.
• Keep up to date with the latest coaching practices and the principals.
• Be fully aware of the growth and development of children.
• Be punctual for all matches/training sessions.
• Ensure training activates are appropriate for the age, experience and ability of players
• Stick to governing body rules and guidelines

PARENTS

Code of Behaviour

• Remember that children play sport for their enjoyment and not yours.
• Encourage children to participate do not force them.
• Focus on the child’s efforts and performance rather than winning or losing.
• Encourage children to play within the rules.
• Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a game.
• Remember that children learn best by example. Applaud good play by all teams.
• Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities.
• Respect officials’ decisions and teach children to do likewise.
• Show appreciation of volunteer coaches, officials and administrators. Without them your child could not participate.
• If you have any issues with the coaches/managers approach them after the match or coaching session not during.
• If you have any concerns about the way in which the club operates, which are not dealt with to your satisfaction by the managers/coaches contact the Club’s Welfare Officer.
• Make any spectators you invite to watch matches aware of the Clubs’ code of conduct for spectators.
• Explain to your child and help them understand the difference between the junior competitions Maindy Corries play and professional football.
• Advise managers/coaches if your child is not available for matches and training.
• Assist the managers/coaches on match days .i.e. look after equipment , sort out lifts etc For matches at Maindy Stadium (our home ground) help put up and take down the goals . This is our job and nothing to do with the Council.
• Make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather conditions and has a drink with them.

PLAYERS

Code of Behaviour

• Play by the rules.
• Never argue with an official. If you disagree, have your captain, coach or manager approach the official during a break or after the competition.
• Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials or other players deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent is not acceptable or permitted in any sport.
• Work equally hard for yourself and/or your team. Your team’s performance will benefit so will you.
• Be a good sport. Applaud all good plays whether they are by your team or the opposition.
• Treat all players as you would like to treated. Do not interfere with, bully or take unfair advantage of another player.
• Co-operate with your coach, team mates and opponent. Without them there would be no competition.
• Play for fun and not just to please parents and coaches.
• Wear your Maindy Corries kit for all matches.

ADMINISTRATORS

Code of Conduct

• Involve young people in the planning, leadership, evaluation and decision making related to the activity.
• Give all children equal opportunities to participate.
• Ensure the rules, equipment length of games and training schedules suit the age, ability and maturity level of the participants.
• Provide quality supervision and instruction for junior players.
• Remember that children participate for enjoyment. Don’t over – emphasise awards.
• Help coaches and officials highlight appropriate behaviour and skill development and help improve the standards of coaching and officiating.
• Give a code of behaviour sheet to spectators, officials, parents, coaches, players and encourage them to stick to it.
• Remember that you set an example. Your behaviour and comments should be positive and supportive.
• Support the implementation of the National Development Programme of the FAW.

SPECTATORS

Code of Conduct

• Remember that children play sport for their enjoyment, not yours.
• Applaud good performance and efforts of each team. Congratulate all participants upon their performance regardless of the games outcome.
• Respect officials’ decision and teach children to do the same.
• Never ridicule or scold a child for making a mistake. Positive comments are motivational.
• Condemn the use of violence in any form, be it spectators, coaches, officials or players.
• Show respect for your team’s opponents. Without them there would be no game.
• Encourage players to follow the rules and officials decision.
• Do not use foul language or harass players, coaches or officials.
