M&N 0 ----- 50 Huddersfield
Blasted away in West Yorkshire.
After a 60-point win last weekend, Malton and Norton U17/18 Colts were looking forward to their next league fixture, but with opponents Thirsk unable to raise a side, they instead travelled to Huddersfield for a hastily arranged friendly.
The long trip to West Yorkshire proved to be a disappointment, however, as a lacklustre performance saw Malton lose 50-0. The first 20 minutes were scoreless with Malton holding their own and threatening to score on a couple of occasions. The set piece, which has been a weakness in recent matches, was working much better, but Malton’s back line was largely static, and this made it hard to gain yards in attack and put no pressure on the opposition in defence. Combined with weak first time tackling, this eventually led to the first score for Huddersfield and tries followed for the home side at regular intervals.
Malton will need to produce a more committed and positive performance when they resume league action after a break next weekend.
