No New Year Cobwebs For Malvern 2nds
2nd Team Brimming With Class Shows Ruthless Streak.
This was a day when the strength of the first team could be judged by the quality of the second team. No less than 12 of the second team having played first team rugby, many in recent months. A league game against local neighbours Ledbury on a crisp, cold afternoon was the first game for a few weeks due to the Christmas break and a cry off cancellation.
With Director of Rugby Rob Cook readily admitting he had the best possible selection problems for the firsts with some close calls meaning many of the 2nd team players were determined to give him the same problem next weekend.
The scoring started with 2nd team captain Will Clee going over for a try. Jack Longley went over next, with John Friths scoring the first of a hat-trick of tries next. Tutty and Brainwood scoring tries either side of Friths tries.
Giggle, Cook and Clarke were next up for tries.
Ledbury managed a try to temporary halt the Malvern Scoring.
Winger James Wood finished off the scoring with a try.
Second Team manager Rob Harker was full of praise for the team, saying with players dropping down from the 1st team there was still the need to see the team gell. Harker's man of the match was James Tutty and for unknown reasons at this time he awarded winger Connor Giggle the infamous Dick of The Day title.
Next week the 2nds travel to Luctonians in another league match.
