Tigers winning streak continues!

by Tim Holmes

Another great day for Rugby blessed Grove Park, as Manchester played host to Aldwinians.

The Under 7’s utilised the large pitches that had been marked out for the recent festival and the size of the pitches played into the Tigers style of fluid running and keen and accurate tagging.

Aldwinians fielded the strongest opposition the Tigers have met so far this season; a well drilled team with some fast and evasive runners.

Game 1 – The Tigers won the toss and chose to start, and what a start! Lightening Ben opened their account with a typical run, quickly followed by a full length of the field effort by Alex. Great tagging by the whole team meant Aldwinians never crossed the Tiger’s line. The half ended with Harry scoring the third of Manchester’s first half trys.

The second half saw Aldwinians come back into the match as some of their runners began to find space. The Tigers tagged well, with Ewan (the human missile!) leading from the front always racing in to get the first tag. Aldwinians crossed the line 3 times, but Manchester showed great support running and accurate offloading to give Lightening Ben 3 second half trys. The Tigers eventually ran out 6-3 winners, a well deserved win.

Game 2 – This was a much closer affair as Aldwinians got to grip with the large pitch, and Manchester’s defence began to bunch and lost it’s shape. The game was much more back and forth with both teams trading trys and tagging well. Manchester shared out the running as Thunder Ben, Jamie, George and Will all made great yards forward and supported well.

Lightening Ben scored 2 trys in the first half, with the whole team showing great backing up and support. At half time the Tigers turned 2-1 ahead but had to play uphill in the final half. Aldwinians came at the Tigers very hard and ran with great purpose. The Tigers defence wilted slightly and allowed in 2 simple trys as the defence bunched creating space for the opposition to benefit from. Two trys from Manchester, one a great finish by Taylor, meant that Manchester remained 4-3 ahead as the final Aldwinians possession started. The Tigers showed great composure and continued tagging meant Aldwinians could not find a way through. The Tigers closed out the game and took the 4-3 victory.

Another great day for the Tigers, well done to all the boys!
