Alex Toon, a former Manchester RFC junior, needs your help to provide the equipment to help with his rehabilitation from a serious injury.

Alex Toon was a Manchester junior member playing in the same squad as our club captain and senior players - Tom Fantom, Luke Tyrell , Sam Oakes , Dom Thomas, Callum Hendry, Sam Crew-Meaney and others.

Alex’s other sporting passion was cycling but an accident whilst mountain biking earlier this year has left him paralysed. Alex was discharged from a North West spinal unit in Southport earlier this summer at the same time his father Alan was involved in a tragic accident.

Alex was told upon discharge that there was little or nothing that could be done for him and was told he wouldn’t walk again. Through his own determination since being back at home Alex has progressed, and by his last assessment he had moved up 2 scales on the movement scale they use to assess him. He has done this by visits to and the use of a FES bike (facilitated electrical stimulation) in Wakefield. This is the closest one available and is of course at considerable cost to him and his family.

A fundraiser is being held at Burnage RUFC (click below to see the flyer) on the 25th October to raise funds towards getting one of these bikes for him. Please either come along or donate towards our fundraising and hopefully in the near future we will see Alex up and about again.
