Tigers continue in winning ways!
This Sunday saw the unbeaten Manchester Tigers continue their winning ways!! Not having had a proper fixture since the end of October the boys were eager to get going!
Manchester visited Aldwinians and fielded 13 eligible players, nearly 2 full teams. In order to give 2 balanced sides we mixed up the ability and experience and played 2 strong squads rotating each half.
Squad 1 - Frank, Ewan, Charlie, Zac, Taylor, Freddie H, Lightening
Squad 2 - Thunder, Alex, Jamie, Freddie F, Will K, George
Game 1 - This saw the long awaited debut for Zac, who led out the team as captain in Game 1. The match was an end to end affair. The pitch was smaller than the Tigers are used to and space for our running style was difficult to find, but the boys adapted well. They tagged very well, but they did find the lack of space frustrating. Aldwinians were strong opponents with some good runners and taggers. Not too many turnovers were conceded in the first game as both teams traded trys with the eventual score being 8-8 as the final whistle blew. Scorers for Manchester were Charlie 2, Ewan 1, Frank 2, George 1, Jamie 1, Taylor 1.
Game 2 - In Game 2 the Tigers began to get to grips with the space and took on a more direct style. Frank opened the scoring with a busting run straight up the middle, taking the defence by surprise and putting the Tigers into an early lead. Committed and determined tagging meant the Tigers forced a number of turnovers which were capitalised on with trys. A 2 try lead was maintained throughout and the strength in depth meant that when the squads changed at half time no change was seen in the Tigers control of the Game, running out winners 9-6. Scorers for Manchester Alex 1, Ewan 1, Frank 3, Lightning 2, Taylor 1
Game 3 - The first half saw the two teams evenly matched as they traded trys in the first half. Half time score was 4-4. Both teams tagged and ran well. The second half was a different affair, as Manchester realised their unbeaten record could be broken with one slip! Spurred on, Charlie and George backed up their team mates well and collected 2 second half trys each. This put the Tigers firmly in charge. a 'Twinkle Toes' run down the touch line also gave a season first try for Freddie Hill. Manchester ran out worthy winners as the final whistle blew the score read 10-7 in favour of Manchester. Scorers for Manchester Alex 1, Charlie 3, Frank 1, Freddie H 1, George 2, Lightning 2,
So..2 wins, 1 draw, 27 trys scored, 21 conceded, and the unbeaten record stays intact. More than the score was that all the boys put in great effort today and showed amazing commitment to running strongly, defending and tagging bravely. They showed great team spirit and all the players worked together and worked for each other. Well done to all.
