History

A little known fact is that the fine game which we play today by the name of 'rugby' was actually first played by our forefathers here at MMRUFC before the time of William Webb Ellis.

A young Webb Ellis got the idea of our great game from a trip to Manchester where he saw a group of athletic young medical students playing an enthralling game in the park. As these students spent their nights downing ale in the local drinking hole regailing tails of the fine parts of the game, the rapscallion Webb Ellis ventured back to school where he aimed to emulate the great game he had seen on his travels by picking up the ball in a game of round ball.

Therefore the game commonly (and incorrectly) known as Rugby should be called "MANCHESTER". .

BUT NO MORE SHALL WE SIT IN SILENCE. THE GAME FROM HERE FORTH SHALL BE MANCHESTER.

This expansion of the game across the world gave MMRUFC the opportunity to spread their unique brand of Champagne Rugby to the masses.

MMRUFC will continue to expand and develop as well as continuing to educate as many people as possible in the art of champagne rugby.
