BIG challenges lie ahead of Manor Park – and that’s before the club kicks off it’s 2016/17 campaign following last season’s triumphant season.

The pre-season games we’ve got in the book will be extremely difficult, but that excites us as players.
- Chris Goode, 1st XV captain

Head coach Kevin Venus has lined up a series of pre-season opponents designed to challenge his side ahead of the big Midlands 3 West South kick off in September.
Firstly, Park make the short trip to tackle M2WS outfit Barkers Butts on Saturday, August 13.
Venus will return to one of his former club’s Camp Hill on Saturday, August 27 when once against Park will tackle Step 7 opposition.
The Griff and Coton will play host to the final preparation game when Aylestone St James make the trip over from Leicestershire.
Captain Chris Goode is looking forward to the challenges ahead for his side.
“Last season was a memorable one for the club and I was proud to captain the side,” he said. “But in many of the games we were not seriously challenged – and that simply will not be the case this season.
“We’ve managed to retain most of the squad and have added some useful additions which bodes well.
“The pre-season games we’ve got in the book will be extremely difficult, but that excites us as players.
“It’s a challenge we will tackle head on and relish.
“Hopefully it will deliver us to the start of the season raring to go.”
Manor Park won Midlands 4 West South at a canter last season, winning 19 of their 20 league games.
They also managed to win the Warwickshire Vase before adding the Keresley Sevens in May.
The club has ticked over during the close season with a switch to the round ball game but strength and conditioning sessions have commenced in readiness for a pre-season training under the watchful eye of Venus.
With fixture lists crammed full of games for the first and second team, as well as speculative fixtures booked in for some third team games, Goode reiterated the club’s open door policy to new players.
He said: “We’ve welcomed a few new faces this summer. Some with plenty of playing experience, others who haven’t touched a ball since school.
“Within reason, this club will give everybody a chance to scratch that itch and play rugby union.
“Whether it be a beginner or an experienced player who is looking for a fresh challenge with a forward-thinking club.”
+++ The second XV will also be playing on August 13 when Barkers Butts Tanners are the opposition.
+++ No fixtures are currently booked in for Saturday, August 20 but options are being explored +++
+++ When the first team are at home to Aylestone on September 3, the seconds will be away at Copsewood+++
