CAPTAIN James Everard has praised his second team for turning their season around – but has urged his troops to show more commitment to training.

I think there is a misconception that the second team lads are cannon fodder for the firsts. It’s just not the case.
- James Podge Everard, second team captain
Everard scored two of his team’s tries in the 58-0 humbling of AEI Rugby last weekend to register their fourth win in five games.
It has been a fine turn around in fortunes for Everard’s men after some early-season heavy defeats and morale was further dented by a sequence of home games being cancelled by opponents.
“It was great to see so many of the lads get on the scoresheet against AEI Rugby and for everyone to have a good run out at home,” said Everard. “We’ve bounced back really well but there’s so much more we can do as a squad.
“The club is extremely lucky to have a coach of Kevin Venus’ experience holding training sessions but we get so few of the second team lads along for training, it’s a real disappointment.
“We all appreciate that people have commitments, including myself, but we can all make the effort to get to more sessions.
“I think there is a misconception that the second team lads are cannon fodder for the firsts. It’s just not the case.
“I’ve been to some of them and they’re great sessions which everyone can benefit from.
“So please do all you can to join in with training and we can all strive for better things in the months ahead.”
For information on training sessions - as locations and times are variable – keep an eye on the private members Facebook group or contact one of the coaches or captains.
Also on the scoresheet against AEI Rugby was Neil Timmins (2), Michael Crockwell, Craig Ison, Frazer Heron, Adam Bennett, Greg Rowley and Sam Emery.
This weekend’s only game is a trip to Yardley and District. The meet is 12pm, kick off over there is 2pm.
