A KEY position has been filled at Manor Park as the club continues preparations for the 2016/17 season at pace.

I have always had a soft spot for the club
- Paul Everard, first team manager

One of head coach Kevin Venus’ main wishes for his second season in charge at the Griff and Coton was to bring in a first team manager.

Having lost player/coach Matt Cappell to Old Wheatleyans, a new volunteer was needed to provide the crucial link between players and coaches.

Venus didn’t have to look far to find a willing candidate and the club is delighted to welcome Paul Everard into the fold.

He said: “I am looking forward to coming on board as first team manager at the club after a long spell out of the game, particularly as the team face the exciting challenge of a new league after last season's fantastic achievements.

“I have always had a soft spot for the club particularly due to the fact that my son James "Podge" Everard has been at the club for a number of years and is now second team captain.

“I am also looking forward to teaming up with Kevin Venus again as I have worked with him previously as team manager for Nuneaton Colts and also at Warwickshire Under 19s for three seasons culminating in the winning of the County Championship.

“Hopefully I will get to know the players quite quickly and their characters, as pre-season continues although some of the lads already know me and know how I work.

“I see my role as primarily acting as a liaison between the coaching team, the team captains (both Chris Goode and Podge) and the players particularly regarding availability and non-availabilty as well as getting involved in various match day activities, and also being part of the club committee and the social scene that the club is renowned for.

“It will be interesting to know what "nickname" I will be given ("Mr Podge"?)”

Strength and conditioning sessions have been running for a fortnight at the Griff but due to the pitch being cut this week, Tuesday’s session will be a chance to meet with Nuffield health and fitness. A partnership is to be created between the club and the gym – with a view to having reduced price gym membership for our players. Anyone is welcome up the Griff from 6.30pm. Afterwards, Charlie Wilson will be conducting a session – bring your running shoes!

On Thursday, Venus will be holding the session from 6.45pm. Bring plenty of water.
