MANOR Park won two games 135 miles apart as they wrapped up their season ahead of next weekend’s Brunty’s Day Memorial Game.

The end-of-season touring party to Hull tackled Marist, who stepped in only a few weeks before the tour after Park’s original opponents dropped out due to cup commitments.
The tourists earned a 29-24 victory.
Meanwhile, a stay-at-homes game was organised against Handsworth, whose first team play at Mids 2 level.
Owing to a number of drop outs, a handful of players from neighbouring clubs guested for Park and helped them to a 34-33 victory.
On the scoresheet was Manor Park favourite Aaron Willis (2) while Nuneaton Saxons prop Sam Greening also helped himself to brace. Sam Emery and Lee Critchlow added singles and Chris Morewood improved two of the tries from the tee.
Manor Park forward Matt Quick, who co-ordinated the stay-at-homes, was full of praise for the ‘Barbarian’ side fielded.

He said: “After having a few drop outs on the day and having a 16-man squad to work with it was a fantastic result up against a very physical side and one that caps the season off perfectly.

“There was great performances all over the pitch. Aaron Willis was at his brutal best, Jordan Rice and Kevin Williams made some great yards through the centres.

“Sam Emery was flawless at the breakdown and a mention to Adam Brown who hadn't featured since the first week of the season but managed to put in a big 80 minutes with some great running and fantastic tackling.”

There is one more game to go on Saturday, April 30 at the Griff and Coton as Kevin Venus’ Cowboys take on Ian King’s Indians in a match in memory of Ian Brunton.

‘Brunty’ died while playing for the club back in 2003 in a match at Yardley and District after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was aged just 38.

Ian was a member of the Warwickshire Shield winning team of 1997/98 alongside current head coach Kevin Venus, and Matt Marston and Dick Andrews – who also appeared in this year’s Warwickshire Vase final win 18 years later.

There will be plenty of fun and games before and after the game – including a great raffle which boast prizes like an iPad Air 2 and Disneyland Paris tickets.
