After an early morning of trying to remove some of the water from the outfield and bringing in the boundary, the seconds got their season off to a winning start. After an inspection by the umpires they gave us the green light to play, at the toss the Lea Park skipper called wrong we opted to bowl first.
A New opening bowling partnership of Billy North
and Luke Rodgers bowled to good lengths and got us off to great start. Once Luke and Billy had bowled their opening spells it was over to the senior bowlers ( or the Mitchell Brothers ) DJ and Shep. More tight overs followed from these two experienced old timers with wickets falling at regular intervals.
Dan Kilvington has not found taking wickets against our opponents that easy in the past (I think previous skippers have kept him under wraps) but he came on to bowl and claimed a couple wickets.
Lea Park were bowled out for 83 and gave us 10 extra overs to chase down their total.
Tea was taken and we all tucked into stew and crusty bread and selection of home baked goods........um um um !!
Our innings started slowly with some tight bowling on a track that played well but the ball proved difficult to time. Some early season poors shots dangled a carrot to Lea Park to keep them interested but our middle order proved they had the minerals to secure a full 20 point win.
Full score card can be found under the results section of the play cricket site.
Many thanks go to Michael Booth who scored and a big thanks to Caroline and Sharon for a great tea that warmed all of us up at the interval.
