Mansfield Progress to NLD Cup Final
Mansfield overcame a weakened Paviors side at Eakring Road on Tuesday night to progress through to the NLD Cup final.
With the league as their priority the burnstump outfit sent a mixture of first, second and third team players to contend this round of the competition. Who can blame them, having beaten league leaders Derby last week, they are placed second in Midlands Division I and in a great position to make the play-offs in a few weeks time. We wish them every success.
Mansfield were also without a few regular first team players and full credit must go to the lads that stepped in for this Tuesday night romp to perform admirably. The team proved too strong in pretty much every department as the game progressed and although Paviors held out for 23 minutes until the first score it was always going to be a tough night.
The first try came from Joe Symcox and was followed 10 minutes later with a penalty from Lee Shaw and then Joe Symcox bagging his brace. The team went in at half time with the score at a credible 15-0.
However, as the home side’s dominance became apparent the first try of the second half came quickly from another Symcox, this time Alan. Converted by Shaw, further tries came from Eddy Simmons, Tom Lowery and Russell Coleman converting his own score; all punctuated by a well struck dropped goal from Lee Shaw.
The final is to be held on May 20th at Kesteven RFC. Mansfield play in another semi-final this weekend as we host West Bridgford in the Notts county Cup; a competition the blue and whites have won a record 16 times. If you want to follow Mansfield then you can on Twitter; go to @MansfieldRugby.
