March Bears V Saffron Walden

March Bears struggling with player availability for their home game managed to field a full side and one replacement.

Saffron opened the scoring with two quick try’s within 4 minutes to take the lead 10-0 , March reduced the lead when Full back Michael Croucher picked up the ball in his 22 metre area , and set off on one of his trade mark runs to touch down under the posts for Ben Brooks to convert. March were awarded a penalty, which Ben Brooks converted to level the scores 10-10.

Saffron Walden started to lift the pace of the game and put March under considerable pressure and eventually started to increase their score and by half time were 35-10 in front.

Second half March lost player through injury replacement Lewis Keogh came on , as Saffron pressured the penalty count started to increase and following a warning from the match official, the next offence will be a yellow card. Unfortunately Lewis Keogh, being too keen at a break down in play took a yellow card for the team 10 minutes from the end of the Match.

With the Bears down to 14 players, March lost another player 15 minutes from the end, and ended up with 13 players on the field; Saffron Waldron exploited the situation and scored 23 more points to win the game comfortably 58-10.
New debut player Teilo Pearce not played since his school days had solid game putting his body on the line for the Bears, it was a hard game against a side that has scored over 350 points in seven games, a well-disciplined team , who are 3rd place in the Eastern County’s 2 west, league table .

Cannot fault the commitment of all the players of the field today, they gave everything and more. Training is now on Wednesdays we need to increase the size of our squad, to cover all eventualities.

We have two more weeks of home games, starting with Renegades, make the effort and be available for “The Bears”
We are looking to start a development side aiming at the 16 to 18 years olds, if any youngsters are interested in playing rugby please come along to training on a Wednesday evening 6.45pm at Elm Road Sports Field
