Bury St Edmunds 3rds V March Bears

Party in the mud

Bury St Edmunds 3rds V March Bears

March started the journey to Bury St Edmund’s with 13 players available to play, by the time they got to their destination they were down to 6 players, not the ideal situation to be in when you are playing the league leaders.
A quick phone call to Bury St Edmund’s explaining the Bear’s predicament was soon resolved when Bury 4ths game had been cancelled and gladly loaned the Bears 6 six players.

March expecting to be on the end of a heavy defeat, on a cold and bitter day, kicked off and took the game to Bury 3rds, players who have never played together gelled as if they had played in the same team for years.
Everything that Bury 3rds tried was met with a stubborn resistance, and the first venture into The Bears half resulted in a unconverted try for Bury.

The Bears put lots of pressure and played most of the first 20 minutes of the game in Burys half of the pitch, a breakaway try allowed Bury to increase their lead with a converted try to go in at half time 12-0 in front.
Bury struck early from the restart with their heavier forwards carrying the ball well in the very testing conditions, managed to work their way over the try line for a converted try to increase their led to 19-0, March then pressed hard and were rewarded when the hard working Lewis Jack touched down Ben Pyle converted.

March lost another player from their side, but again took the game to Bury 3rds pressing for another try, Bury turned the ball over in a ruck, and again good work from their forwards crashed over to score their fourth try of the match which was converted, minutes from the end of the game and eventually run out 26-5 winners.

A superb performance form both March Bears and Bury 4th players which enabled the game to go ahead, gave no quarter against Bury 3rds and tackled themselves to a standstill, Bury 3rds had to dig deep to overcome a dogged performance, although conditions were not very favorable for attractive open rugby, credit to both sides who adapted well to the conditions.

The Bears are home this Saturday against Haverhill which promises to be an entertaining game.
