Wendens Ambo 10 V March Bears 50
March traveled to Wendens Ambo who are based in Saffron Waldron, with a squad of 19 players for a game if they win would take them too the top of Eastern Counties Greene King Division Three West.
From the Kick off March had Wenden's on the defense, whose big pack controlled the ball with impressive rucking and mauling, only to kick the ball away which was retrieved by March Bears Backs whose pace exposed gaps in the home team’s defense and good support play by forward James Knight saw him touch down for the first try of the afternoon converted by James Knight.
With the Bears pressing hard trying split the Wenden's defense open, good interchange of play was rewarded when Kris Feaviour powered over for an unconverted try to increase the Bears lead 12-0.
Stewart Rigby playing out of position in the backs received the ball 40 yards out and his direct running, breaking tackles managed to touch down under the posts for a try converted by James Knight (19-0).
With the forwards starting to control the set plays, going through a few passages of rucking and mauling, James Knight ended it with a try converted by Stewart Rigby (26-0). With 15 minutes of the half left March lost concentration and Wenden's started to gain the upper hand through their bigger pack worked their way over the try line for a well-deserved unconverted try. (26-5)
From the restart Wenden's was straight back at the Bears, searching for another try, but desperate defending kept them away from the try line as the whistle sounded for the end of the first half.
A stern lecture from both the skipper and pack leader during the break appeared to do the trick.
Within five minutes of the seconded half The Bears increased their lead through center Ryan Tate bursting over the try line to score, converted by Stewart Rigby (33-5). Wenden's responded again their pack working hard controlling the ball to touch down for an unconverted try (33-10).
As the game ebbed and flowed and Wenden's players staring to run out of steam The Bears forwards rumbled their way towards the try line and a powerful surge saw Simon Whittaker touch down for an unconverted try. (38-10) .
Try of the match goes to full back Jack Allison who received the ball 65 yards out using his pace raced into the corner for another unconverted try (43-10).
March Bears final try was started by Edward Cribb whose smart play released winger Adam Jarrett to score his first try under the posts for the club, converted by Kris Feaviour.
The score line reflects a resounding victory for “The Bears” but Wendens Ambo contribution to the game ensued that March had to work very hard for their victory.
