March Bears 50 V Cantabs 3rds 7

March traveled to Cambridge side Old Cantabrigian`s, taking for the first time for several seasons a squad of 20 players.
From the kick of both sides making minor errors trying to control the ruck and maul area of the game, March gained possession and the ball was passed out to stand off Giles Skiba who touched down for “The Bears” first try and converted by James Knight.

Marches defense was pushed to the limit from a Cantabs attack being pushed back several times just inches from the try line. March eventually regained possession of the ball and putting together several phases of rucking, Simon Whittaker picked up the ball to out sprint the home defense for an unconverted try.

The game ebb and flowed March were awarded a scrum, Kris Feaviour picked up the ball created an opening for Stewart Rigby to run in his first try again unconverted to give “The Bears” at 17-0 lead as the half time whistle went.

Second half March appeared to hit another gear, off-loading the ball from tackles, good support play was impressive to watch, Stewart Rigby showing a clean set of heels put the ball down between the posts for his second try of the game converted by James Knight.

With March now in control of the game and all players working hard for each other “The Bears” old war horse Kris Feaviour powered his way through the Cantab's defending line for a well-deserved try, converted by James Knight to increase “The Bears” lead to 31-0.
March appeared to switch off as Cantab's go a foot hold in the game and exposed some poor defending on the blind side of a ruck to to touch down for a converted try 31-7.

This should have been a wake up call for “The Bears” , instead of playing to their game plan tried to force the game making several handling mistakes, Cantabs latched onto Marches errors and were held up short of the line several occasions.
From a Maul the ball was passed out to James Knight from 30 yards out powered his way over brushing aside the Cantabs defending players and converted his own try 38-7.
The Bears started to put their game together a huge kick up field, followed by a “The Bears” chasing players put the Cantabs full back under pressure who dropped the ball from the impact of a tackle allowed Simon Hayes to touch for his first try for several years conversion missed 43-7.
March were awarded a scrum on their 5 metre line, Stewart Rigby picked up the ball and ran the length of the pitch outpacing the Cantabs defense to score his third try of the match converted by James Knight. To give “The Bears” a 50-7 away win, to move them up to second position in Eastern Counties Greene King League 3 west. Man of the Match goes to Stewart Rigby for scoring a hat trick of tries.

Full credit to Cantab's 3rds who did not let their heads dropped and contested fiercely for the full 80 minutes and if a bit of luck had good their way may have had 2 or 3 trys to their tally.

This was a solid display from March Bears, their off-loading, Rucking and Mauling, set scrums and support play was at times breath taking, they did switch off trying to force the game when there was no need, The team needs to stay focused for the full 80 minutes Still a few more areas to work on, which can be correct in training on Wednesday evening.

March Bears are still trying to attract new players welcome all players of any ability so we can build for the future
