March Bears 52 V Shelford 5ths 19
March Bears were keen to stay top of the table and remain unbeaten at home within the Eastern Counties Greene King League Division 3 west.
For the first time in many season March had 24 players available for the match, Shelford turned up with 13 players and March loaned them players to even the sides up
March opened their account within 90 seconds from the kick off when Stewart Rigby powered over for Marchs first try converted by James Knight.
Shelford immediately responded and from several driving plays from their forwards were rewarded for their effort with an unconverted try.
James Knight rounded off an excellent passage of play to touch down in the corner, missing his conversion.
Stand-off Edd Cribb opened up the Shelford defense to touch down, converted by James Knight.
Again Shelford rallied to put Marchs defense under considerable pressure eventually scoring a converted try. To reduce “The Bears” lead 19-12
Forward Ben Howells ripped the ball out of a maul to run in a try 45 yards out the Shelford defence unable to cope with his power and pace converted by James Knight, to go in at half time 26-12 in front.
A stern talking too at half time, to eliminate the silly errors and mistakes, which were creeping into their game plan.
March players responded with the forwards working hard to secure ball and forward Dan Ryan touched down to further increase Marchs lead, March Loaned Shelford another player due to an injury.
Powerful running from center Tom Swann opened up the Shelford defense, who then off loaded the ball to Ryan Tate to score, converted by James Knight. (38-12)
Loan player Aaron Connor helped himself to a try knocking aside Marches attempt’s to tackle him, to touch down against his own club converted by Shelford.(38-19).
“The Bears” finished strongly with Stewart Rigby Scoring his 2nd try of the Match converted by Aaron Boxall.
Centre Tom Swann again splitting the visitor’s defense open being stopped 30 yards out managed to pass the ball out to supporting player Edd Cribb to score under the post for his 2nd try of the game converted by Aaron Boxall, winning the match 52–19.

It was solid win, performance was patchy in places, trying to force the game, discipline from all March players was excellent, many thanks for referee James Pepper stepping in at the 11th hour to take control of the game.
