MARINE PLAN AWARDS PARTY TO CELEBRATE END OF SEASON SURVIVAL...

Open invitation to fans as Club and Supporters present awards to players.

Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Marine announces that they are to stage an end of season awards party in the Graham Lounge at The Marine Travel Arena on Friday 28th April.

The awards party is an open invitation to fans and players with the event starting about 8pm.

Club officials, players, fans and sponsors are to attend the evening which sees the traditional end of season awards to the players by the Club and Marine Supporters Association.

The awards evening also gives an opportunity for the fans to celebrate with manager Tommy Lawson, his staff and players the achievement of retaining the Club’s NPL Premier Division status following the Mariners 3-0 win on Saturday against Hednesford Town.

Marine are the longest serving member club having joined the NPL in 1979 and the victory protects the Mariners' proud record of never having been relegated in their 123 year history.

Lawson was appointed manager of Marine towards the end of February with the Club having then just 35 points and being two places above the relegation zone.

Lawson took on the task with 14 games left and with only five players remaining he quickly had to assemble a new squad with the sole aim of securing 50 points for safety.

Saturday’s victory over Hednesford sees the Mariners reach 51 points and their proud record remains intact.

Marine Chairman Paul Leary said:

“This awards evening is really a great way for our fans and Club officials to congratulate Tommy Lawson, his staff and players on winning the battle to stay up whilst at the same time presenting the traditional end of season awards to our players.

Tommy has done a fantastic job in such a short time and we are all absolutely delighted at his and the players achievements in just the last 7 weeks.

We can all now get on with the job of planning with him better times ahead for our football club.”
