Former Committee member passes away...

It is with great sadness that we record the death at 85 of Ruth Hunt, who was a great worker for Marine from the 1970s and was the first and only woman so far to serve on the Marine management committee.

She was the widow of Lol Hunt, one of the most outstanding players the club has ever produced, who won several England amateur caps including playing against Scotland at Hampden park in front of a crowd of 100,000. He was also briefly coach to Marine before sadly dying in 1982 at just 57.

Ruth was a stalwart of the Social Committee who ran the new club after it opened in 1969. In those days so important was their work that four members of that committee sat on the main management committee and Ruth was elected one of those in the 1970s despite the curmudgeonly attitude of what had been an all-male bastion.

For years she helped Ian Gibson with the Wednesday night bingo which was so popular that it was a major financial contributor to the team's success in the 1970s. Ruth was that great asset to a club like Marine a volunteer always ready to help with any project.

She loved the social aspects of Marine when they were at their height in the 1970s and 80s and was always a happy personality.

Our condolences go out to her family at this sad time.

Ruth's funeral is at Sefton Church a week on Monday (19th March) at 11.45am.
