Marine 1-1 Chorley
Mariners and Magpies draw at MTA...
Marine extended their unbeaten pre season campaign with a 1-1 draw against Chorley at the Marine Travel Arena on Saturday.
The blustery wind had an effect on the game with both goals assisted by the elements, with the draw being the right result over the 90 minutes.
The Vanarama North club were always likely to provide the toughest test so far for Tommy Lawson's new look squad, and so it proved as the Magpies had the better of the first half, hitting the woodwork twice as well as Dale Whitham giving them the lead with a spectacular strike after 17 minutes.
Marine had their chances as the half wore on with visiting custodian making a couple of good saves to keep out efforts from Louis Coyne and Dom Reid.
The second half saw the Mariners mainly on the front foot with Danny Eccles making a smart stop to deny Tony Donaldson when the midfielder looked favourite to score, Danny Mitchley also having strong penalty appeals waved away after appearing to be barged over in the area.
The homesters got a deserved equaliser following a good move down the right, David Webb exchanging a number of passes with Donaldson before floating over a cross which sailed over Eccles and dropped in to the far corner of the net.
