Marine 4-0 Tranmere Rovers XI
Mariners return to MTA with a win...
Marine ran out comfortable winners in their opening home pre season friendly at the Marine Travel Arena as they beat a Tranmere Rovers XI 4-0.
The result against a youthful Rovers side was never in doubt once Dom Reid had opened the scoring with a rasping 25 yard drive after 15 minutes, his powerful effort beating Patrick Wharton and finding the top left hand corner of the net.
The Mariners played some flowing football with several neat moves opening up the visiting defence, Wharton making good saves on a number of occasions to keep the score at 1-0 going in to the break.
The homesters took a firm grip on proceedings four minutes in to the second half as they continued to knock the ball around nicely in the sunshine, Reid notching his second of the game after racing clear and sliding the ball past the exposed custodian.
Danny Mitchley got the third, running through on goal to take the ball round the gloveman and firing in to an empty net on 58 minutes with trialist Conor Ready adding a fourth four minutes later, heading in a deep cross at the far post from close range.
