Marine 2-0 Lancaster City: Match Report
The Mariners prevail in the Integro Cup on a cold night in Crosby...
Marine got their revenge on Lancaster City by beating them 2-0 in the Integro Cup on Tuesday night at the Marine Travel Arena.
The Mariners dominated the first half, clearly learning from their mistakes against Lancaster at the weekend in the FA Trophy - a fixture they lost 2-0.
Defensively, Marine seemed to have five players at the back with James Short seemingly sitting on the left of a trio with Chris Doyle and Danny Shaw.
Shaw put the home side ahead in the 23rd minute following a corner kick, which the defender headed beyond Lancaster City goalkeeper Aiden Stone.
Much of the first half was played along Marine’s right-wing with the home side bombarding that area of the pitch and the visitors unable to create a lot.
The visitors showed up in the second half and created a few chances of their own in the opening 15 minutes after the break but they didn’t offer much after that.
Shaw grabbed his brace in the 62nd minute – Lancaster clearly didn’t learn from past errors as it was again a well taken headed effort from a corner kick.
Danny Mitchley was introduced in the 70th minute in an attempt to see off the game but the damage already done was enough as the game petered out at 2-0.
