Market Drayton Town Reserves 6 - Gornal Colts 2

The Reserves came into todays game after last weeks disappointing defeat to Darlaston Town knowing the manager needed a reaction. They were up against Gornal Colts, second in the league and undefeated in 8. A big performance was needed and what a performance it was. Right from the kick off they were at it, controlling the game and playing smart intricate football to keep possession however that was also mixed up with good long ball play into the channels and willing runs from the forwards.

Drayton went one up early with a flick on by Liam Dunphy into the path of Dan Frances who cooly put the ball beyond the stranded Gornal keeper. Great finish. A freak goal from Gornal not long after made it 1-1. Drayton composed themselves and played superb stuff to get Cam Muir on the ball in the box were he turned a player and put the keeper the wrong way and finished, 2-1. Dan Frances then got his second near the end of the half with another great finish to go in 3-1 up at HT.

Gornal had to try something in the second half but found it even tougher to find the right pass. Drayton then scored again with another great move and Macca Clifton delivering from the right to find Liam Dunphy for his first. Gornal rallied a bit and they snatched a second, 4-2.

More great wing play from Clifton who again delivered superbly for Liam Dunphys second. Great finish in off the post, keeper no chance.

Dan Frances must have been wondering is the hat-trick going to come? Well it did after a super set piece into the box from Martin Lalley, the ball was knocked down to Frances 8 yrds out and on his form he wasn't going to miss and smashed into the net for the hat-trick and seal his man of the match performance.

Dan Pollard and his management team were delighted with the performance, attitude and above all the result.

Drayton Res now move up 2 places in the WMRL Div 2 and look forward to the next game.

Final score. 6-2.
