Another Home Win For MDTFC In 2-1 Victory v Skelmersdale United
Charlie Knowles Scores A Class Goal For MDTFC
Saturday 24th November 2018 saw Skelmersdale United as the visitors to Greenfields.
Here at MDTFC we were looking to add another 'win' to our impressive 'Home' record, and supporters were not to be disappointed with our 2-1 victory; this was a match however that we should have well and truly wrapped up by half-time.
MDTFC got off to an encouraging start and could have taken the lead as early as the 2nd minute when Glynn Coney sent in a beaut of a cross, from which Dan Beddows powerful header thundered wide of the left hand post.
MDTFC were putting the Skelmersdale defence under constant pressure and it required some excellent keeping skills from Terence Smith to keep Skelmersdale in the game - aided by some last ditch tackling.
Glynn Coney had also seen a free kick cannon off the bar.
MDTFC continued to apply the pressure, aided by some intelligent running at the Skelmersdale defence by Charlie Knowles; it was of no surprise therefore when we took the lead on 20 minutes - Glynn Coney fed the ball to Charlie Knowles who scored with a fantastic curling shot into the top right hand corner giving the Skelmersdale keeper no chance whatsoever.
As so often happens in football the lead was short lived, when 3 minutes later Skelmersdale broke quickly from defence and hit a fine equalising goal from William Dunne.
26 minutes saw MDTFC restore the lead when combined play by Desean and Glynn saw the ball being fed to Jud Ellis - Jud made no mistake and hit a very fine drive into the net.
Half Time: MDTFC 2 Skelmersdale United 1
The second half saw MDTFC go somewhat off the boil with both sides having something of a battle for possession - Charlie had taken up more of a midfield roll with Desean moving forward.
On 52 minutes Charlie Knowles hit a cracker of a shot from some 30 yards which cannoned off the cross bar.
75 minutes saw the ball pinging about the Skelmersdale goalmouth, but the ball could not be forced over the line - then on 77 minutes MDTFC had a goal disallowed for an offside decision.
80 minutes saw the game thrown into chaos with all the 'handbags' being drawn and play was held up for several minutes - the result of which saw Lyndon Campbell having an early bath and Desean Martin and William Dunne receiving 'yellow cards.
Drayton therefore had to play out the last 10 minutes with 10 men and we nearly paid the penalty when Skelmersdale nearly equalised in the final minute with a shot that went just wide of Ash's right hand post.
This victory saw a revised and excellent 'Home' record as follows:
Won 4 Drawn 2 Lost 1
Additionally the victory also saw us move up to 11th position in the League Table with 21 Points
