As the last remnants of 2018 pass by, Marlborough RFC is making the news over in Fiji care of the ’offload king’ Pio Tuwai who returned back to his native Country to marry his partner Lily, in a traditional wedding ceremony. Pio was interviewed by Fiji Sunonline journalist Waisea Nasokia, who was asking for his thoughts about Gareth Baber (Fiji National Seven’s Team Coach) and how well he thought the current team was playing. He explained that he thought they were doing well and his advice to them would be to improve their discipline (sounds familiar) and to strengthen up their defence.
He then went onto explain how he became involved with Marlborough,” I joined the club to play in the 7s competition and they asked me to join the XVs team. I first played at No.8 then they shifted me to play centre/wing due to my offloading skills and speed.” He also explained how the Club had a good representation of Fiji, Tonga and Samoa players.
Pio expressed how very proud he was to been picked to play for his Country on numerous occasions and he will always be available to play for Fiji. Meanwhile, he aims to be back in good old Marlborough in the near future and we can’t wait to see him back.
