Sunday 2 December 2018 was a special day for the Marlborough Mustangs (the U13 age group of Marlborough RFC). Following a determined performance and victory at Trowbridge in the morning, 28 members of the squad, with associated coaches and parents, traveled to the Recreation Ground in Bath to watch Bath Rugby play Sale Sharks in the Gallagher Premiership.
Whilst there, they provided a most important function as the Guard of Honour for both teams as they took to the pitch. Looking resplendent in this season’s playing shirts, the Mustangs were fine ambassadors for Marlborough RFC and performed their duties impeccably.
The role saw them featured on both BT Sport’s and Channel 5’s rugby coverage and introduced them to Bath’s mascot, Maximus the Lion (who coincidentally shares a middle name with Winnie the Pooh and Attila the Hun). The boys graciously allowed Maximus to join in their team photo.
Despite appalling weather and a somewhat indifferent match between the two Premiership strugglers, all agreed that they’d had a superb day. The aim of the trip was to continue to foster the already excellent team spirit amongst the Mustangs and to expose the boys to some high-grade rugby. Thanks must go to our Sponsors and those personnel in Marlborough RFC who assisted the coaching team in making this trip happen.
