North Dorset 19 - 22 Marlborough
Marlborough kept the pressure on the leaders with a hard fought bonus point away victory against a good North Dorset side.
Due to some unavailability, Marlborough had a makeshift front row and credit goes to Lemeki Moala, who was carrying an injury the whole game, Craig Williamson who was outstanding in his first front row game and Lotu Ngungutau, who also had a great game.
The first try of the game came after 5 minutes when a great backs move from a scrum put full back Russ Westcott in to finish in the corner. The try was unconverted. North Dorset replied when a defensive mix up allowed them in to score a converted try. The home side scored again 5 minutes later to go 12-5 up, again after some missed tackles in the Marlborough defence. In attack Marlborough were, as always, very powerful and getting lots of forward momentum from Ben Fulton, Jack Lynd and Waisale Navunidakua On the half hour mark Waisale Navunidakua made a really good line break and although he was eventually stopped the ball was quickly recycled and passed out to Joe Visei who scored under the posts. Jake Williams converted and that was the final score of the first half. Half time came at 12 all.
The start of the second half saw Marlborough have a much more dominant spell. Despite this the North Dorset side were defending well although they did sustain a number of injuries keeping the visitors out. The resolute defence was eventually broken when a quick tap penalty was taken by Williams and good passing put Visei in again, this time in the corner and unfortunately the difficult conversion was missed. The next score again came for the visitors and was a result of quick ruck ball and Navunidakua put wing Ben Caravou over in the corner, again the conversion was missed. The score was now 22-12. To the credit of North Dorset they once again started to fight back, and added to a yellow card for Visei for a deliberate knock on, saw them apply pressure in the closing stages. Their play was rewarded with converted try in the final few minutes. The was little time left and the visitors took the 22-19 win.
Next Saturday we play Swindon College Old Boys in a rearranged league game due to last weeks snow.
