I didn't know Roger during his playng career at Marlow, but got to know him later when he was a regular visitor to Riverwoods for 1st XV matches. Roger moved to Oxfordshire about 5 years ago, and joined Witney RFC. I saw him most recently at Witney when he came to watch Marlow play Witney in the league.

Thank you to those who have sent to me memories of Roger. Below is a brief synthesis – my apologies for any inadvertent errors.

Roger joined our Club in the early 1970s, having previously played for Sale and Maidenhead

He played both at prop and in the second row for the 1st XV, including in several Bucks Cup Finals. Later Roger captained the 2nd XV and 3rd XV and played for other sides including the Vets.

His contemporaries remember playing with him - he was always sun-tanned when the rest were lilly white, and that as a second row forward he didn't take many prisoners! They describe him as a stalwart of the Club. Off the field, Roger and Trisha, his wife, were always to the fore helping the Club.

Roger’s sons Tim and Jerry, both played for Marlow’s 1st XV and Jerry was 1st XV captain during 1983 – 85.

Our thoughts and good wishes are with Trisha and the family at this difficult time.
