Marlow 4's win again to stay second in the league
Bracknell stung by Sting
Marlow 4's impressive form in the league continued on Saturday with a win over a determined Bracknell team.
Although both teams started well, Marlow always had a slight edge and eventually made it pay when Sting (or Dogger if you prefer) made the most of a half chance to score in the corner. Concerted pressure from Marlow saw a second try added short afterwards by Hammo. The only concern at half-time was that 10-0 didn't really reflect the possession and territory that Marlow had enjoyed. Indeed, it had taken a sustained period of defence to keep Bracknell out in the last 10 minutes of the first half.
The second half saw a more attacking approach from Marlow with some good work by Rich at Fly Half putting over Sting for his second try of the game which was duly converted. Minutes later and Sting was celebrating a hat-trick with some good handling by the backs following some quick recycling from the pack creating just enough space for the dirty dogger to touch down. Unfortunately, Marlow took that as their cue to relax and invited Brancknell to run at them, which they duly did to score a deserved try. The game then went into a bit of a decline, as tired bodies tried to do a bit too much. However, a touch of composure from James Sanderson - playing at 8 - gave Phil Dean the chance to score, which he accepted with glee. Disappointingly Marlow then conceded a soft try with the last play of the game to leave the final score 29-12.
Overall, it was a marked improvement on the previous week's performance, with Marlow doing the basics well for large periods of the game. However, there is still room for improvement, and with league-leaders Reading looming next Saturday Marlow will need to apply themselves for the whole 80 minutes.
