Marlow B's tie with rivals High Wycombe in two tight matches
The Marlow U12 B squad journeyed to Oxford Harlequins - to play Wycombe twice this weekend. The weather was kind and the boys played really well. The first match showed that the boys have built on a good start to the season with MRFC dominating the scrums and moving the ball really well in the backs. I am pleased to say that to a player the tackling was excellent and the only real weakness we need to concentrate on is our rucking where we still are being too generous to the opposition and letting them win easy ball. That said the match was a closely contested game with the final score ending in a draw 0-0, although Marlow were unlucky not to be awarded a try.
The second match against Wycombe again was a closely contested game with the boys working really hard, despite going a try down they battled courageously and had it not been for the pitch markings being less than clear, Marlow would have scored on the last play of the game to tie the game.
There were some great contributions from the whole team. Joseph and Hugo made some great tackles; Jack Fountain is growing with every game; Lewis showed he is a force to be reckoned with when in the mood; Harrison Glover made some intellligent kicks which put the opposition on the back foot. Jack Pennant, Matthew Rowley and Tom Leonard made some penetrating runs and Alex Richardson refused to fall, dragging half the opposition's pack 20 yards up the pitch on more than one occasion. It's also nice to see Luke Ince-Green get his game back as he recovers from injury.
Still a great days rugby with huge effort all round. The man of the match awards go to Tom Leonard for his fantastic work rate and terrier like tackling, and Hugo Beyer who worked tirelessly in the scrum and made several really big 'hits' that we all felt on the side line!
