Double Top For ‘Famous’ Feisty Fives

The Feisty Fives celebrated a Super Saturday start to the season last weekend with a 5 – 0 victory over local rivals Henley in the afternoon, followed by scooping Sports Team of the Year at the Marlow FM Awards ceremony in the evening.
Screen shots abounded as we found ourselves at the top of the Table in our Division for the first time ever after a typical gritty performance against a lively opposition at least 30 years younger, who have proved our nemesis in previous seasons. A quick change into party frocks saw us living up to our reputation for HAVING FUN (and the odd night out) at the Marlow FM Hidden Gems Award ceremony. Winning the Sports Team Award proves that sport and teamwork are open to all shapes(!), sizes, ability and age and that, despite not possessing a cabinet groaning with trophies, we can still gain a lot from participation, support, banter, cake-eating and give back with respect to the many ‘hockey households’ now prevalent in Marlow. Joint Captains Brigitte Hamelink and Tammy Robinson summed up the day with, “We would like to thank all those who voted for us and the many people in the club who have supported us.” In many ways the team are testament to Mike Irving and Rhona Merricks’s excellent Back to Hockey sessions: we are mostly mums who last played hockey on school grass pitches which resembled ploughed fields whilst wielding sticks the shape of which could probably be spied on the Bayeux Tapestry. Our penchant for a natter is legendary, but so is our determination to win. So, what next? Perhaps one of ‘those’ calendars? Mmmmm……. Time for tea, maybe.
