GU14Bs beat local rivals Wycombe in a rain-soaked derby

The GU14 Bs finished a jam packed day of England Hockey Cup fixtures with a tremendous 6-0 victory against local team Wycombe. After sitting in the changing rooms debating the weather, the girls decided the only way forward would be to do lots of running around on the pitch to keep warm. The sixteen strong squad warmed up as the parents looked on all wrapped up with hot drinks in hand. From the first whistle Wycombe came hard at Marlow, which unsettled them for the first 5 minutes, but the girls then pushed through and started to use the width in order to get into the Wycombe quarter. After 10 minutes of end to end hockey, Marlow manged to get a break through in the Wycombe defence, from a wide led made by Collette. This allowed Grace to place the ball in the back of the net. Wycombe didn’t give up though and came back strong, however the Marlow defence of Amber, Mabel and captain Alessia kept them out with great tracking back from Chloe, Amelia and Sadie. After a great pass wide and movement of the ball down the pitch, Aggie picked the ball up in the circle where she scored in the bottom corner. A half time team talk saw Coach Windsor happy with all targets being met in the first half. On returning to the field of play, Marlow moved forward quicker this time with a great lead out from Grace followed by a left to right drag in front of goal, bagging her second. Distribution from Rosie, Emma, Ella and Helena throughout the game in the midfield gave Marlow a few short corners. Emma stepped up and with freezing cold hands hit the ball into the goal. Shortly after, Helena received a rebound off the keeper and with the correct placement managed to find the corner of the goal. Wycombe attacked hard in the last 10 minutes as Marlow tired, but keeper Pia kept a clean sheet, although there were a few close shaves. In the last 5 minutes Aggie again managed to find a break through, with a great pass off from Georgie, which finished the game and day with a 6-0 victory.
