Marlow 1s vs PHC Chiswick 1s
A beautiful day for a game of hockey...
Marlow ladies 1s team travelled to their first away game at PHC Chiswick. The glorious weather couldn't have been more different to the rain the previous week. The game was exciting from start to finish with Marlow's first goal coming after 2 minutes as Ellie Yeomans
deflected a ball across the face of goal. Chiswick replied within 40 seconds with a rocket of a strike that keeper Dibs managed to get a glove to but could not keep it out. Jane Smith
scored her first of the day after 10 minutes with a diving reverse touch at the far post which helped her earn "Woman of the Match". The first half continued to be a good fight between Chiswick and Marlow with both teams having more chances.
The second half started strongly for Chiswick as they scored an equaliser 30 seconds after the whistle was blown. Both teams created further opportunities and the Marlow defence worked hard to keep Chiswick out. Saves off the line from captain Gemma Newberry and Molly Griffiths
and several fantastic saves from Keeper Dibs kept the score at 2-2. The deadlock was broken again when Jane Smith
scored with a precisely placed penalty corner strike which nearly broke the backboard. The final 10 minutes of the game was still very tense with Chiswick putting pressure on the Marlow defence. This was not helped by Jen Martin receiving a green card in the last minute of the game but Chiswick helped Marlow out by receiving their own green card just seconds later.
Marlow look forward to heading to Trojans HC next weekend to continue their league campaign.
