Sometimes you have to hold your hands up ................

......and that was very much the case for a poor United performance yesterday, a performance that simply wasn't good enough. It is reasonable to say it wasn't for lack of effort that United failed to overcome lowly Unity yesterday but there was a lack of guile and purpose behind what was a lack lustre display.

United usually have enough firepower to deal with lack of form but yesterday they failed to fire as chances were created, despite everything, but the final touch was missing against a spirited, organised Unity team who took great delight, rightly so, in ending United’s long unbeaten home record. However anything can happen in football and sometimes you have to face bad days when things don’t quite go right, yesterday was such an occasion and the sooner United put it behind them the better.

With Reading YMCA crushing Wraysbury 8-0 the champions have reaffirmed their position at the top by 4 points, helped by Rotherfield’s abysmal failure to field a team last week.

So United have to shake themselves down and go again. There are many points yet to be won or lost and United are a much better team than was suggested yesterday. They need to bounce back and of that I’m confident that we shall.

YMCA led the march at Wraysbury yesterday while Woodcote were held 1-1 at Cookham as Highmoor battled out a 1-1 draw with Berks County. Inconsistent Mortimer beat Woodley 2-0 and struggling Rotherfield were thumped 4-1 at home to a resurgent Newbury Town who now find themselves in fourth place behind Woodcote.

Next week United eyes avert to the Berks & Bucks FA Cup where they face a difficult trip to Slough taking on East Berks League leaders Langley. United will look to put yesterday behind and move forward in this prestigious competition.
