A solid start to the 2016/17 season accentuated by a return to Gossmore Lane which added to the feel good factor following this win.

There will be tougher tests to come but United can take some satisfaction following a close season of turmoil.
Manager Letts decision to resume managerial duties has certainly provided a timely boost to morale to coincide with positive news from Marlow Town Council with regard to the renovation of the changing room area.
While certain issues still need to be factored out there is room for optimism with regard to the football club’s medium to long term future. The pitch as anticipated played well with no sign of the famous or perhaps more correctly infamous Gossmore wobble, which it’s safe to say is a thing of the past thanks to the sterling efforts of the club’s sponsor Polaris Groundscare.
The match itself was effectively over at half time as United leapt into what was to prove to be an unassailable 4-0 lead in what was a solid and often skillful display.
In fairness to Woodley the anticipated goal fest didn’t materialize during the second half due in part to their resilience and in part due to United taking their foot off the gas. The latter probably not surprising due to it being the first game and the inevitable flagging in warm conditions.
Notable debuts from Jake Braim, James Hardy and Gary Homes can only add to the feel good factor.
Top of the league on goal difference United have an opportunity to establish that position, as early as the season may be, this coming Wednesday when they face Taplow United at Gossmore Lane in the first local derby of the season. Taplow themselves will take heart from a narrow 1-0-win home win over Unity so will visit Marlow with some confidence.
Following this United continue a run of home games with the visit of Hurst next Saturday before playing their first away match next Wednesday evening with a potentially dangerous encounter at Wraysbury, dangerous in respect that it’s a difficult midweek trip, London bound for a 6pm kick off! But first things first and its Taplow where United’s attention will currently be. A solid start and nothing more than that but it is a start and 3 points secured.
