A difficult couple of weeks have been overcome which included a 6pm Bank Holiday kick off which meant some sacrifice for everyone at the club

Wraysbury had been asked to switch the game to a Tuesday or Wednesday but they decided the match should go ahead as scheduled which of course was their right. However, it was with some trepidation that we took the road to Staines, fearing some kind of footballing ambush!

On this occasion United fielded its smallest back line, ever!
With leading goalscorer Surdariu Catalin forced to don the gloves, despite carrying an injury one had every right to feel a little anxious but anxiety didn’t have time to take hold as United swept into a 3-0 lead inside 15 minutes and while Wraysbury fought back against a wilting United in the last 20 minutes or so, the result was never in doubt following that opening 3 goal salvo.

Yesterday saw United take on a new look Highmoor Ibis United which effectively served as a pre cursor to the Reading Senior Cup Semi Final when United take on Hellenic Premier League outfit Highmoor Ibis. Yesterday’s 1-1 draw was well earned with both sides missing good opportunities to win the game but it was a fair result although the first warning signs of tiredness are creeping in as the season goes on and on but hopefully will terminate at the Madejski Stadium on Friday 25 May.

United host Mortimer on Monday evening at Dereham Lane KO 6pm and then travel to Rivermoor to play Hellenic Premier Highmoor Ibis in the semi-final of the Reading Senior Cup KO 7-45pm. The other semi final being contested on the same evening Iis between Hellenic Premier Division teams Wantage Town and Woodley United. David and Goliath springs to mind but it wouldn’t be the first time United have overcome the odds as they attempt to reach a fifth Reading Senior Cup Final and a ninth appearance at the Madejski Stadium.

Around the league its celebration time at Reading YMCA who clinched a third successive Thames Valley Premier League Title with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Cookham Dean and our congratulations go to our arch rivals on what is a stunning achievement.

For United a long and difficult season draws to a close and may or may not end at Rivermoor Thursday evening, but whatever happens United's management team and players can hold their heads up high for safely negotiating an extremely difficult few weeks in the face of some adversity.
