It was a day when records tumbled as United ran out 14-0 winners against a hapless Taplow United .....inset: Bushay heads home

...which surpassed the 13-2 victory at Edwin Cooper Sports back in September 1979. As the scoreline suggests this match deteriorated into something of a mismatch as struggling Taplow had no answer to United’s prolific firepower.

6-0 up at half time and the team went out for the second half with Manager Letts instructions ringing in their ears and how they responded. The previous week Letts was disappointed by the second half profligacy shown by the team despite a 7-1 victory. There would be no repeat of this extravagance as United went about the second half in ruthless fashion hammering in a further 8 goals.

Manager Letts has shown a more assertive and strict approach this season, insisting upon harmony within the team and the bench alike and its certainly paying off as one can almost feel the convivial atmosphere that is within and surrounds the team. Selecting a much reduced squad has also proved fruitful as players get more game time allowing them to Gel into the team, leaving much room for optimism.

As pleasing as it was, and it was, to see United set about their business in such a fashion, it isn’t good to see any team humiliated and I couldn’t help feel for the opposition who to a man, and to their credit kept pushing until the final whistle but they were simply outclassed and that isn’t the fault of United’s players who also had a duty to keep going to the end, and how they did by producing wave after wave of fluid attacking football and it doesn’t matter who the opposition is, you either can, or you can’t and United certainly can and did.

I was equally pleased to see that at the end United showed humility and while obviously delighted with their days work they never exaggerated their understandable pleasure.

As for Taplow United they must lick their wounds and go again, they have a Manager who is resilient and such resilience is probably what is required right now and I genuinely wish them luck going forward.

It’s fair to say that United have had a sedentary couple of weeks but they have completed the job required of them and now they move into more familiar territory as they return to league action with a mighty clash at home to Woodcote SR. Those who witnessed United's 4-2 victory at Woodcote just a few short weeks ago will know exactly what is required and what it will take to enjoy a further success against our fellow title contenders. Woodcote SR will come seeking revenge and this should produce a top quality and tense affair and if anything like the previous game it really is a must watch occasion.

The reserves left White Eagles with nothing after leading 2-0 at half time they crashed to 4 second half goals to lose 4-2 as their sharp learning curve continues. Patience is required of this team and in the end we will get there, we always do!

Next Saturday the reserves travel to early Division Two pacesetters FC Woodley who are currently unbeaten and will provide a further stern test for United’s ‘young guns’.

As aforementioned United entertain Woodcote SR in a league match that will likely test the nerve ends of both sides! The match kicks off at 2pm at Derehams Lane.
