despite playing this their home game away from Bisham Marlow once again ran out comfortable winners, scoring five goals against their opposition for the second time in three weeks.
Despite the score line though United were never comfortable until the final few minutes when man of the match Ollie Flint
scored two late goals to seal the game and consolidate Marlow’s top half position in the league.
As in the previous encounter the Theale forward line continually troubled United’s defence, none more so than Ibrahim Koroma, who was a constant thorn in their side with his close control and strong running.
The home team could have taken an early lead if Givens had capitalised on Dan Flint
’s misplaced pass straight from the kick off.
As it was the Theale forward saw his effort blocked by the legs of keeper John Buller
and the ball was cleared.
Marlow threatened briefly with a Vinnie Cuva header but it was Theale who were making the early running against a sluggish United team.
Buchanan lost the ball in midfield on 5 minutes and only desperate defending by Dan Flint
forced Bark to fire wide.
Marlow looked in vain for a penalty 3 minutes later as Ollie Flint
appeared to be pulled down in the area as he attempted to reach a Filmore free kick but this was a rare excursion into enemy territory at this stage.
A poor pass by Filmore set up a Theale attack which resulted in a free kick on the edge of the area, Sims seeing his effort blocked by the wall.
Theale took the lead on 21 minutes as United failed to clear a throw from their right, the ball arriving at the feet of Givens who volleyed home from 10 yards.
Marlow looked to up the tempo of their play as they attempted to find the equaliser but it was an error by the home defence which led to the opening goal for United, Cuva pouncing on a loose pass before running on and coolly slotting the ball past Compton on 27 minutes.
Once on level terms it didn’t take long for Marlow to take the lead, the influential Ollie Flint
firing home from 25 yards following good play between the scorer and Ben Filmore on 32 minutes.
By then Marlow had taken off the injured Mat Letts, replacing him with James Flint as Middleton slotted into the centre of defence.
Now it was Marlow who looked more dangerous with both James and Ollie Flint
causing Theale problems at the back.
Theale hit back through Koroma, his run into the United penalty area resulting in a penalty kick as he was bought down.
To Marlow’s delight Donegan’s kick hit the post and under pressure Givens fired the rebound wide.
Marlow surged back with Ollie Flint
setting up Chris Davies, his shot skimming wide of the far post.
Compton then pulled of an excellent save from a Buchanan effort. The Marlow midfielder finishing the first half action with an audacious 35 yard shot that Compton pushed over the bar.
Theale stepped up the pace of their game in the second period with Koroma proving a real handful on United’s right.
Twice he skipped past desperate tackles only to be thwarted by sheer numbers as he gained two early corners.
It wasn’t all one way traffic though with James Flint seeing his shot blocked after good work from Mason, on for Cuva, and Filmore.
Davies saw an effort blocked by the keeper before United gained a penalty on 67 minutes after Ollie Flint
was bought down.
Cousin Dan Flint
stepped up and slotted the kick home with Compton diving the wrong way.
A two goal cushion looked enough to gain the points until Koroma intervened on 75 minutes.
Once again Marlow’s defence failed to deal with a throw and after the ball was headed in the air Koroma volleyed home from a tight angle.
United responded 5 minutes later with Mason finding Davies and just as it looked as if the forward had lost the advantage he turned and put in an inch perfect cross for Ollie Flint
to head firmly past Compton.
United were grateful to Wayne Moore minutes later as he headed over from under the bar as Buller fumbled a cross.
Marlow finally killed of any hopes of a Theale fight back with Davies heading on James Flint’s high clearance and Ollie Flint
running on to complete a hat trick as he beat Compton from 8 yards to complete a fourth league win on the trot.
