Hurst the United penalty king

Marlow comfortably saw off the challenge of Richings Park with Chris Hurst notching two penalties in a match for the second game running

Further goals from Qwam Thomas and Gary homes saw Marlow maintain their promising start to the season in a game they dominated and in truth only some wayward finishing and resolute defending stopped the visitors from doubling their goals tally.
The fact that United were rather slow out of the blocks saw the home team look the more dangerous in the first few minutes, catching the United defence on the hop two or three times as the ball was played in behind the defenders.
Marlow began to gain the upper hand in midfield as the half progressed and they threatened the Richings defence, eventually earning a penalty on 6 minutes as Liam Bushay was pulled back as he looked to win a through ball, Chris Hurst stepping up and blasting the ball past keeper Edmunds.
Marlow were looking in control now and they continued to create chances with Hurst and Bushay tormenting the Park defence, the midfield of Thomas, Prudden, Hardie and Homes dominating proceedings.
Bushay was shown a yellow card for a late challenge on the keeper as he bore down on goal on 20 minutes as United missed a number of chances to increase their lead.
The second goal arrived on 26 minutes in dramatic style as a Gumbs throw was laid off by Bushay to Thomas who collected the ball before shifting to the left and firing an unstoppable shot past Edmunds from 20 yards.
Hurst had the ball in the net soon after but was ruled off side with Bushay, Prudden and Homes all seeing shots, blocked or saved as United upped the pressure.
At the other end Park were finding the defence off Fox, Gumbs, Rockall and Britnell a difficult nut to crack, keeper Cannings not having a serious shot to save during the first 45 minutes.
Marlow added a third goal on 37 minutes to more or less settle the destination of the three points as Homes collected Pruddens pass, running on before shooting, the ball eventually defeating a diving Edmunds.
The same player saw a goal bound effort blocked as the half was drawing to a close.
HT 0-3
United were soon into action with a Gumbs cross being headed over by Hurst in the first minute.
A minute later Thomas and Bushay combined with Hurst volleying over from close range, Hardie seeing a shot find the keeper and Bushay heading narrowly over.
Homes who's face by now resembled a fighter who had been in with AJ, having taken a couple of blows to the face in the first period was replaced by Namyslak on 53 minutes, the sub entering the fray immediately as he fired wide from a Bushay cross.
Park had made a number of substitutions at the commencement of the second period and they threatened on the counter attack as the game became rather stretched but in Rockall and Britnell they found a formidable barrier.
Marlow appealed for a penalty on 70 minutes with a defender appearing to handle the ball on the line, only for an offside flag to stifle their protestations.
Edwards replaced Thomas a minute later and within another 60 seconds United were awarded a second penalty as Bushay again was fouled in the area as he ran on to an Edwards pass.
Up stepped penalty king Hurst who again blasted an unstoppable effort past Edmunds for the fourth goal.
Park won their first corner of the game on 80 minutes, keeper Cannings palming the ball away with the loose ball being fired wide.
Canning was replaced by Mick Rundle for the last ten minutes of the game that saw a couple of scares around the Marlow goal, the game finishing with Fox firing a free kick over the bar and Bushay then needlessly receiving a second yellow for abusing the referee, the only blot on an otherwise excellent display from United.
Marlow entertain Reading YMCA at home this Saturday as they attempt to be the first club to lower the colours of the current champions for over two seasons.
