The manager gives his thoughts on pre-season, recruitment and the Evo-Stik challenge.

Marske have started the 18/19 campaign with a mixed bag of pre-season results, Jarret said:

"It's been a frustrating pre-season from start to finish, just with a lot of lads missing due to weddings, holidays and work but I'm experienced and I've witnessed it for ten years.

You need to put things like that to the back of your mind because you know it will always come better in the end.

We've had some poor results, but for me, the results don't matter, it's about your fitness, your shape, how you're going to work and people getting minutes.

But I'm happy with the last three performances in the team.

Last season we played a 4-3-3 and I felt even though we had three up front we didn't attack enough as a three.

That's the reason for the change in formation.

I want the balls coming in from different areas, we've brought Jamie Owens in and he's not going to be doing a lot of running

Curtis has come back in today and played well, running off Jamie and he could be the one to start the season with.

Rio and Cal are two players I've wanted for a long time and they fit the shape well."

The seasiders have made a number of signings to bulk the squad for the new season, Carl said:

"Recruitment has been frustrating, in the Northern league, every big target I was going for wanted to come because of who we are and to get managed by the management team that we have here.

This year it's been different because of the travel, which is a huge factor because of family life and work.

Jamie was what we needed last year, I was happy with my strikers but we needed that man that could hold the ball up.

Rio is a brilliant footballer at the age he is, he's only going to get better and Cal has been immense right through pre-season.

Brad Plant has come in, jury was out on him, we didn't know if he was going to be too lightweight but to be fair to him he's got low gravity, he's amazing with the ball at his feet, it will be a massive plus for us this season.

We've got young Jacob who got released from Hartlepool, he's been magnificent in training and for 18 years of age he looks so calm on the ball.

Then we've got Hillers who started off half way through pre-season, needing to get himself fit but he's come on the last few games and has done some tidy things, so we can't deny the talent he's got."

Marske face a new challenge after being promoted to the Evo-Stik East last season, the manager said:

"I'm excited for this season, a lot of people keep going on about the travel but it's a challenge.

Next season we know nothing about our opponents, apart from if I go and watch games.

Every game next year will be like an F.A. Vase game, we don't know what to expect.

All the lads are really looking forward to it, otherwise they wouldn't have signed.

We'll be where we'll be, we don't know, we might go and smash this league, we might end up being relegated .

One thing we know is we won't lack our heart, togetherness and giving it a go, that's one thing we won't do."

Marske kick off their season this Saturday at home to Sheffield.
